Lesson 7: The Fall of Life; The Yoga of Life

As you observe life taking place in the mall, at the ballgame, at the gas station…you see a journey of countless paths. You see people assuming a myriad of forms but each accepts disaster as a common thread of that journey. Who has not known pain? Who has not known the fall of life? The temporary joy of a new car, a trip to the Caribbean, or great sex postpones the inevitability of the Fall in your life. It may not be today but it’s coming.

Your reconciliation with the demands of the exterior world and your growing awareness of your inner world pretty much represents your everyday life. Whether or not it is conscious or unconscious, if your life becomes all about the exterior world, you will notice with precision that you will fall prey to a form of suffering that nothing can heal. You can’t figure out what is causing it. The specialists don’t know why. All you know is you don’t feel so good.

What is causing the struggle is the separation from your true Self. It is being separated from the essence of who you really are. It is a state of amnesia in which you willingly play a game pretending to be someone you are not. Now, let’s say that for the moment you have no idea what that means.

“Smiling like a new-born child at love and hope,
In her nature housing the Immortal’s power,
In her bosom bearing the eternal Will,
No guide she needed but her luminous heart:
No fall debased the godhead of her steps,
No alien Night had come to blind her eyes,
There was no use for grudging ring or fence;
Each act was a perfection and a joy,
Abandoned to her rapid fancy’s moods
And the rich coloured riot of her mind,
Initiate of divine and mighty dreams,
Magician builder of unnumbered forms
Exploring the measures of the rhythms of God,
At will she wove her wizard wonder-dance,
A Dionysian goddess of delight,
A Bacchant of creative ecstasy.”

Read line 5 again.

I am constantly pointing out to you through Savitri the contrast between the you that is bound in time and duality and the you that is beyond it. It is the you that has willingly taken the plunge into night in order that you might experience who you really are, to truly experience…not just know…who you are really are. God is concealed in you if you would but wake up. But you can’t wake up reading this. You can’t wake up by reading a book on waking up. You will wake up when you choose to, when you decide that the costs are no longer worth it. The secret to your becoming is sealed within you. It is not outside of you! It is not embedded in the exterior world somewhere!

Nothing can harm you. Nothing can threaten you. No fall has the power to enslave you. “A pilgrim of the everlasting Truth,” you are endowed with everything you need to master the fall and use the dynamics of life to experience joy, certainty, and safety. The knowledge you need to accomplish this is the knowledge you are.

“To seize the absolute in shapes that pass,
To fix the eternal’s touch in time made things,
This is the law of all perfection here.
A fragment here is caught of heaven’s design;
Else could we never hope for greater life
And ecstasy and glory could not be.
Even in the littleness of our mortal state,
Even in this prison house of outer form,
A brilliant passage for the infallable Flame
Is driven through gross walls of nerve and brain,
A Splendour presses or a Power breaks through,
Earth’s great dull barrier is removed awhile,
The inconscient seal is lifted from our eyes,
And we grow vessels of creative might.”

Your own unique, individualized Fall is the conscious or unconscious mechanism you have chosen to become separated from your true Self. Your Yoga is the unique, individualized mechanism you will choose to know this and return Home.
