All of your life is this process: from the vertical (inner) to the horizontal (outer) and from the horizontal (outer) to the inner (vertical). It is the individual breathing in and breathing out that makes up all of life. You descend into human form. You scale the heights to Truth and Wisdom, and then you descend once more into the horizontal to transform your life and the world.
And if you were to know that in spite of your failings, your self-doubt, and your depressing fears, in spite of the disasters and losses you experienced in the past and will experience in the future, would you not take a deep breath and keep going, knowing that your transformation awaited you?
The bookends of Time are essentially Ignorance (horizontal) on one end and Truth (vertical) on the other. Ignorance must ascend to Truth (vertical) and then Truth descends to daily life (horizontal), transforming Ignorance into Truth which is the equivalent of hell into heaven on earth. The amount of distance that exists between them is the secret formula by which you live your life through either illusion, death and pain or truth, life and joy.
What is gained today is often lost somewhere down the road. There is no escape from the task of evolving and becoming. Just when you thought you were done, it is time to take another step. For there is no safety but inner safety. There is no true strength but inner strength. And it is a never ending journey. The soul without end seeks to experience itself, to realize itself in human form.
At last, the meeting with infinity has occurred and the veils of ignorance have been pulled back, revealing that the thing that you always yearned for is the thing that you already are. Where you thought yourself imprisoned in some way, you discover you were the jailer. And now, you see the opportunity to smile in the middle of the process of your becoming, warts and all.
And as you wait, listening for the infallible words that are woven like magical threads into the unnoticed and mundane steps of everyday life, who is it that is there hiding in human guise, waiting? Underneath the struggle, beneath the wounds of the past, absent of the millions of meaningless thoughts that rule your mind, who is hiding in human guise?
How is it possible that this crummy example of a human being is God? There must have been some kind of mistake. And certainly not those people! Everyone knows they are unforgivable! And look at my brother-in-law who is a train wreck. He can't possibly be God! To understand this phrase, you have to dare to believe what your mind dares not. That is, that you are God and you are playing a game called, "No, I'm not."
Such is personal growth and transformation. For something new to occupy the mind, something old must go. In order to run your cosmos, you must be willing to remove those old shoes in order for the new cosmos to run smoothly. But the mind will resist. Your psychological biology and patterns will cry out against being silenced. But if you won't do it, the universe will do it for you.
An elementary understanding of ignorance reveals that ignorance is a mental condition that does not understand that it does not understand. It does not know that it does not know. Ignorance is the absence of right perception, dividing everything it sees into parts, rejecting some, accepting others.
But there is an inner life that does not depend upon the physical world, does not require perceptions and the physical senses and is independent of the ups and downs of daily life. The inner life is not ruled by the mind and does not require the quest for passion, adventure, fulfillment and experience because it is whole and complete without them.
To be specific, if you don't know what your existence is about or your interpretation about your existence is just another bonehead idea born out of your ego, then you don't know how to use your life. It's just another illusion to be added to the growing list of illusions. Again, if you don't know what it's for, you don't know how to use it.
The immutable laws of nature suggest that all that is physical will one day be no more. Here today, gone tomorrow. The daily work and constant vigilance of training your mind to see what your eyes cannot see can seem so daunting, if not impossible. When your world is in chaos or the physical body is in pain, it is difficult to reconcile these two eternal foes: the visible and invisible worlds...the outer you (the body) and you that lies within (the soul).
The time could not be riper to move towards a new and comprehensive affirmation in thought… in inner and outer experience, to reach a new and rich self-fulfillment in not only your personal existence but in the world. And that's what this blog is about...to spur you on, to inspire with a thirst for wisdom, to help you find a way to create heaven on earth exactly where you are right now.
Each individual houses the dark shadow, the voice of defeat, worry, gloom and doom, self-loathing or disintegration. The psychological cannibal inside of you reminds you with precision about your inadequacies, shames, regrets and fears
When Truth enters the human mind, something else has to go...irrational beliefs, games, self-doubt, self-deception, fears, etc. Truth displaces falsehood. Truth replaces the unreal with the real.
In 1967, I was 16 years old in by a week when I left home for boarding school at St. Andrew’s School in Sewanee, Tennessee. It was the first time I had been out of my home state of North Carolina. After a couple of months, I had become so homesick. I decided to run away.
